Shard Place
Fielden St Thomas is the final piece in the transformation of London Bridge. Designed by RPBW in collaboration with Adamson Associates, this high-density, mixed-use residential tower builds upon the regeneration set in motion by The Shard and The Place. Elevated above vibrant public space, the building enhances urban life with new green areas, retail, and leisure opportunities. Respecting its context yet confidently modern, it offers sustainable, high-quality housing while serving as a transparent, welcoming gateway to historic Southwark.

Urban Context & Architectural Intent
Fielden St Thomas plays a vital role in completing the urban regeneration of London Bridge initiated with The Shard. Together with The Place, these projects catalyzed improvements to the station and surrounding public realm. The new tower will be a bold yet respectful addition—stepping back to preserve key views of The Shard, aligning with the cluster, but establishing its own clear residential identity. At 26 stories, the tower maintains a slender form that complements rather than competes with its neighbors. This is not just another building—it is the capstone to a broader urban vision.





Public Realm & Spatial Strategy
Raised 9m above the station concourse and 16m above St Thomas Street, the tower’s volume appears to float, opening up generous, well-landscaped public spaces beneath. These new areas provide south-facing terraces, retail kiosks, and vibrant street-level activity. A wide, sculptural stair links upper and lower levels, creating intuitive, enjoyable pedestrian movement while marking the gateway to Guy’s Quad—future home of the Science Gallery museum. With over 300,000 people passing through London Bridge daily, this project adds meaningful places to gather, rest, and enjoy—transforming transit space into a destination.




Residential & Sustainability Features
The 15,000m² tower includes 148 apartments and is designed to be “a good building in every sense.” Sustainable features include natural ventilation, whole-house systems, and winter gardens on every floor—usable year-round. All units are either multi-aspect or duplex, with exceptional light and air flow. A south-facing communal garden and play area on level 16 provides shared outdoor space with views across the city. Meeting Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and BREEAM Excellent, the project prioritizes comfort, efficiency, and well-being while contributing to London’s growing need for high-quality urban housing.
