SNF Sparta General Hospital
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and the Greek Government have signed an agreement protocol towards an initiative aimed at supporting the Health sector in Greece. This involves various projects, including three major hospital projects designed by RPBW. The projects are developed following a coherent set of principles focused on performance, patient well-being, and connection to nature. The Sparta General Hospital is a 21 750m2 facility containing 164 beds adjacent to an existing hospital and a park.

The proposed main building is a single volume above ground, has three stories and is about 115 m long. It is placed in front and parallel to the existing hospital, and in the final arrangement, it will be emerging from the tree canopy of the park in front.

The outpatient department and all the public medical functions are located on level 01 and the “Upper Ground level”, while the Inpatient wards are on levels 02 and 03. The supporting Medical Functions are organized on 3 levels below ground, constructed against the slope of the hill, facing the valley towards Sparta.
The Emergency Department of the Hospital will be reached with a dedicated road from the existing entrance, while the new loading dock towards the north will use the road to the parking lot and the main entrance to the Hospital. The Mental Health Department on the “Lower Ground level” has a dedicated garden facing south and visitors arrive without passing through the main entrance.
