Mareterra

Monte Carlo / Principality of Monaco

Mareterra - with a total gross area of 166.500m² - is part of the larger Extension en Mer project (300,000m²). As much as the northerly extension belongs conceptually to the land (Architects VPA), the southerly extension (RPBW) belongs to the sea with its new small harbor and the building at the seaside perched on the new waterfront quay as a ship in a dry dock.

The harbor is surrounded by 3.000m² of retail including restaurants, cafés and shops at the lower quay level, and is connected to the public Piazza and Promenade at street and waterfront level. The waterfront Promenade is a generous public space with unobstructed views.

The appearance of the building perched above alludes to a vessel, but articulated and fragmented as if still emerging from a shipyard. This 60-meter high volume of up to 18 floors consists of 47 luxury apartments. The total net area of the building is 33.500m², including the apartments and the terraces.

The overall appearance of the building is made of brilliant off-white ceramic, slender framed glazing, steel frames supporting balconies and light grey sunshades.

The building is topped with light weight PV cell supports and pergolas and with two slender fiberglass masts. The energy performance of the entire project will be of the highest quality, with a view to reaching a consumption of less than 15 kWh per square meter, and comprising of at least 40% of renewable energies. The complex is also aiming for a BREEAM Excellent rating.
